Look at how it have influenced so many brands today.
My guess is that horse riding (for competition) has always been an expensive sport reserved mainly for the rich. As such, it conjures an image of the good life. The upper crust of the society who, most of the time, dresses impeccably. Thus the whole luxe image come into fruition.
