Cream puff-fu. It's called puff-fu in japan. Just like cake is cake-ki.

tapas

arghhh fond memories...
Kinda reminds me of the not-anytime-soon dinner I had earlier this year.
Speaking of tapas, I was reminded of one thing: housewarming party. I was never a in-da-scene kinda guy and I don't have friends like that. I don't throw parties (why must throw? can't we just give?) nor do I go to them. But I've always wanted to throw a nice party and I guess the housewarming's it.
Those who know me knows that I am not the kind who just order buffet and get it over with. What should my party be like in terms of food and theme?
As budget is definitely a constraint and asking for a potluck is cheapo AND you end up with lotsa potato chips, sushi and red wine.
A cheap way is a popiah party. Who don't like popiah? Who?!

Qiji(green stands for Halal yo!) knows it well and look what happened? I remember years ago, Qiji was this small stall in Plaza Singapore's foodcourt selling popiah. In a few short years, it sprang everywhere. A real Qiji indeed.
As for the theme of the party, another post for another time...

MacKopi

Goumet coffee. At cheaper prices and reasonable quality, MacKopi is really making waves. While we see StarBucks closing down, we are getting more and more MacCafes popping up everywhere.
I don't know about the USA. But the so called baristas they employ in our local starbucks is a joke. If you go to Italy, you can see that they are serious about their coffee. Even the smallest cafe there would come with a proper espresso machine and a serious looking barista behind it.
Even though I have been drinking arabica coffee at home since I was a fetus, I am no expert in coffee. But from what I heard about those serious coffee addicts, starbucks sells you seriously shitty coffee. I would agree. The local market is full of coffee drinkers who cannot really differentiate between average and bad coffee. Just get an espresso machine and make your own latte. 50cents a cup as opposed to $5.

butter/lemon rice
Success! After watching all the cooking shows, if there is something you need to learn about cooking, here it is: basics + creativity + courage.
Let's see TV people who have influenced us in cooking...
方太: singlehandedly taught every auntie home cooked food. my mom used to write down her reciepes and keep them together with the newspaper cutouts. She taught the world the use-chopstick-to-see-if-the-oil-is-hot-enough trick.
Yan: Can cook but he can also make himself a god damn clown. disgrace to asians around the world. almost singlehandedly created the chinese sterotype. baaad engrish.
Nigella Lawson: showed the world that an ogasm is so easy to fake. There is seriously no food so good that can make you moan like that.
ohhh yessss. arrgghhh ahhhhh!!
now this sauce is scrumptious!
You need to know the basics. Somethings you just can't do. The major mistakes of cooking, obvious to some, mystery to many.
Then there is creativity. You need to see what you've got and improvise. Added too much water? Flour differs from recipe? omg what to do?!
*slap*
Get a grip. Don't freak out.
Which brings us to the 3rd and final point. Courage to start cooking. Some people just dare not cook. Have you seen jamie oliver, that buck tooth brute, cook? He just anyhow throw things in.
The other day, i cooked this for shuyi.

rice + tumeric + cummin seeds + garlic + butter + lemon + bacon = butter/lemon rice
Just cook it like you would do for a paella.

Jamie Oliver: successfully gives you the illusion that cooking is super easy. Throw this in... look how beautiful it is. A dash of salt n' peppa, throw this in, pop this in the oven while you go and watch TV and viola! A meal for my 200 friends who comes over to visit.

Good maths
While waiting for shuyi one morning at T2, I decided to have a cuppa at Tosto. So get this. The americana cost $5.20. When I was served the coffee at my table, the helpful lady asked
Now, $5.20 is plenty expensive for a simple cup of coffee already. I try to refrain from buying expensive coffee outside as I have my own espresso maker at home and a cup works out to be around 60 cents. So I refused. But the lady dropped the killa proposal.
Man! That is some trippy math. Load me up with sandwich lady! No wonder she looked so confident that I'll have some sandwich.
'do you want a sandwich to go with that?'

'we're on offer. coffee + sandwich = $5'

MOS burger
Don't you hate it when you open the milk caps and they ALWAYS spit 1 drop of milk on your hand?

my little kopi machine
With a little help from StarBucks. Never realize that it is so hard to get grinds fine enough for an espresso machine.

haha I've just found out that we had fish sperm the other day.

Shirako is...
Shirako (shee-rah-koh) - The milt sac of the male codfish.
ur huh... and Milt is...
Milt refers to the male genitalia of fish when they contain sperm
OH!
Kimochii!
