Back in 2006 when shuyi &i were touring italy, we kept hearing this song being played everywhere. We initially thought that it was Nelly Furtardo because it is female and sounded indie. Back on the telly in the hotel, we saw the video and got introduced to Lily Allen and her hit, Smile. A seemingly innocent name for a song about revenge. Some other songs back then that takes me back...
Next I saw this cool MTV of her collab with Common.
Now her new album, It's not me, it's you, is coming out. And reading about all the funny inspirations for the song really gets me excited!
I draw great chronological links through songs. Meaning, when I hear a song, I mentally link it back to the stage of my life when I first heard it. Listening to old songs from my schooling years brings back fond memories.
